Main differences

At the beginning, we would like to address, that both products provide an excellent cleaning performance. Most of the consumers should be satisfied with either of the products, however, there are some key differences, that you should know about before you make the final decision.

The first difference is the power rating. Since the most important aspect of those products is cleaning efficiency, we decided to list this factor first. The Hoover Spotless uses a motor with a 3.5 amps rating, while the Bissell Little Green uses a motor with a 3 amps rating. This can give Hoover a slight advantage when removing extra stubborn stains and odors, so it’s something to keep in mind.

Another difference, that’s worth mentioning is the tank capacity. The Bissell Little Green has a tank capacity of 48 oz., while the Hoover Spotless has a tank capacity of 36 oz. Therefore, you will need to empty and refill tanks more often when using the Hoover Spotless.

The Bissell Little Green also lacks the Self Clean Technology. It’s a technology, that’s included in the Hoover Spotless which allows for self-cleaning hose. You won’t need to clean it after an intense cleaning process, as the hose rinses itself after each use, preventing any odors or bacteria growth.

There are also some less important dissimilarities, and one of them is the weight of the cleaner. Since both products are pretty lightweight, you won’t struggle carrying either one of them. That being said, the Hoover Spotless is a little lighter, weighing exactly 9 lb. The Bissell Little Green comes at the weight of 9.6 lb.

Another small difference is the hose and cord length. The cord length in the Bissell Little Green measures 15 ft., while in the Hoover Spotless it’s only 14 ft. The hose length, on the other hand, is bigger in the Hoover Spotless, measuring 5 ft., while in the Bissell it’s only 4 ft.

Both products also use completely different tools for cleaning, which is pretty predictable. After all, they come from completely different manufacturers. The Bissell Little Green uses the standard 3 in. tough stain tool, while the Hoover Spotless uses Rubber Nub Tool. More on that in the latter part of the article.

The two last aspects are the package content and warranty. The Hoover Spotless has 2 years limited warranty and comes with an antimicrobial Rubber Nub Tool, sample bottle of Cleaning Solution, sample bottle of Pretreat Gel. The Bissell Little Green has only a 1-year limited warranty and comes with Spot & Stain removal and 3 in. tough stain tool.

Those are pretty much all the differences between those two carpet cleaners. Based on those factors you can freely decide which carpet cleaner is better for your household, however, if you would like to learn more, please continue reading the article.

We will get more into details now, as well as give you some useful maintenance tips.

Cleaning efficiency

The cleaning efficiency is one of the most, if not the most, important factor when it comes to choosing your new carpet cleaner. By this, we mean the overall performance of the device, when getting rid of different types of dirt.

The first thing, that we need to mention is the increased power rating in the Hoover Spotless. Motor power is one of the most crucial aspects, that influence the overall cleaning performance. Therefore, this device will most of the time have a slightly better time when dealing with stubborn stains.

The Bissell Little Green is rated at 3 amps, while the Hoover Spotless provides a 3.5 amp motor. The advantage of the later products won’t necessarily be visible all the time, as both products do a good job when removing day-to-day stains and debris. The additional power will become particularly useful while dealing with the most stubborn stains.

Products also come with completely different tools. The Hoover Spotless has an “Antimicrobial Rubber Nub Tool”, while the Bissell Little Green comes with its standard “3 in. tough stain tool”. It’s hard to compare those two attachments, as there aren’t any crucial differences.

A great, innovative addition is the “Self Clean Technology” which is added in the Hoover Spotless. This feature allows for washing the hose after each cleaning session, without any effort. You just plug it into a special cord, and the carpet cleaner takes care of the rest.

It’s pretty unusual for a cleaning device in this price range. The Bissell Little Green doesn’t have this function, however, different, more expensive models from this manufacturer already have this technology implemented.

Those are the most important information when it comes to cleaning efficiency. In our opinion, a better option in terms of overall cleaning performance is the Hoover Spotless.

Cord & hose length

We don’t think, that those factors will make a big difference to the consumers, as both products are spot cleaners. This means, that they aren’t used for cleaning the whole house but rather the extra dirty spots or car upholstery. However, to give you the most thorough review, we included the information below.

The cord length of the Hoover Spotless is a little shorter coming at 14 ft., while the cord length of the Bissell Little Green measures 15 ft. On the other hand, the hose length comes off better in the Hoover Spotless measuring 5 ft., while in the Bissell Little Green it’s only 4 ft.

Even though both products differ in those aspects, we don’t think, that it will be noticeable during day-to-day cleaning. Therefore, we would say, that it’s a tie.

Tank capacity

Once again it’s worth addressing, that those products are spot cleaners, so cleaning the whole house would be quite troublesome anyway. However, in our opinion, the tank capacity is still a pretty crucial factor when it comes to picking your new carpet cleaner.

The tank capacity of the Bissell Little Green is 48 oz. while the tank capacity of the Hoover Spotless is only 36 oz. Therefore, you will need to refill and empty the water tanks more often using the Hoover Spotless. This can become inconvenient really quickly, especially when cleaning the car upholstery.

Although, we would also like to address, that thanks to the lower tank capacity, the Hoover Spotless achieved a lighter design. The difference isn’t major, however, it’s there, so if you are after the most ultralight solution, it’s something to consider.

The tanks in both products are also easily removable, in case you want to refill or empty them. What’s more, thanks to the convenient construction, the maintenance is pretty simple. The rinsing of each of the tanks should cause you any problems.

In the end, we would still go with Bissell Little Green when it comes to the tank capacity, due to the 12 additional ounces.

Portability

The portability of a spot cleaner is a very crucial aspect in our opinion. For some people, it could even be as important as the overall cleaning efficiency. After all, those products are made for easy transporting and removing stains at a particular spot.

The main aspect when it comes to portability is, of course, the weight. This is the place when the Hoover Spotless takes a win. Thanks to the reduced tank capacity, and some different design enhancements, this product is only 9 lb.

Even though compared to the Bissell Little Green which is 9.5 lb. this may seem like a small difference, it’s an outstanding result for a carpet cleaner. Most of the spot cleaners, that provide similar weight to those two units cost double the price.

Another crucial aspect in terms of portability is the size. The Hoover Spotless measures exactly 9.72 x 13.94 x 15.04 in., while the Bissell Little Green is 19 x 14.5 x 10 in. Once again the Hoover’s device is better at being compact.

Taking into account all the measurements, we can clearly say, that the Hoover Spotless is a more portable solution.

Package content & warranty

The package content for both products also vastly differs. Depending on the model you choose, you can expect different cleaning tools as well as extras. While this won’t directly affect the cleaning process, there are some nice addition, that may come in handy.

The Hoover Spotless has a little more appealing package content, as it comes with Antimicrobial Rubber Nub Tool, sample bottle of Cleaning Solution, and sample bottle of Pretreat Gel. The Bissell Little Green comes only with the 3 in. tough stain tool and one bottle of Spot & Stain removal.

Of course, there are also all the necessary parts, such as the hose or any handles, that need to be attached to the main units.

The warranty between those two products is also different. The Bissell Little Green has only a 1-year limited warranty, while the Hoover Spotless has a 2 years limited warranty. For some people, this may be an important factor, so it’s something to consider.

In terms of both package content, as well as the length of the warranty Hoover Spotless is a better option.

Necessary maintenance

To keep both units operating at the desired level and to prevent any permanent damage, you need to maintain them. This allows a series of necessary steps, that you need to take either after each cleaning or regularly.

All of the most important steps of this process can be found in the user’s manual. However, we will try to present to you the basic steps to take, that will work in almost any carpet cleaner.

To keep your unit operating at the desired level, you should:

  • Regularly rinse both clean and dirty water tanks
  • Regularly check the brush roll for any stuck dirt and/or debris
  • At least once a week clean the cover of the brush, nozzle, and rinse the tank
  • Replace any used or damaged elements as fast as possible

Once again, we highly recommend reading the user’s guide to learn all the most important steps when it comes to maintenance.

What’s worth adding, the Hoover Spotless has a special function, that will be a tremendous help in terms of maintenance – the Self Clean Technology.

Conclusion

In conclusion, both carpet cleaners present a satisfactory level in day-to-day cleaning. What’s more, dealing with dry stains or other stubborn dirt also shouldn’t be a big problem. Most of the consumers should be content with either of the cleaners, although, there are some key differences, that you should know about.

Some of the main differences between the Hoover Spotless and Bissell Little Green are the cleaning performance (the lack of Self-Clean Technology, different motor power, and different main cleaning tools), tank capacity (bigger in Bissell’s product), hose and cord length, warranty and package content.

Based on those aspects you can freely decide which product is a better choice for your situation. In our opinion, this comparison wins the Hoover Spotless, mainly due to the better motor power. This translates to more effective cleaning and fewer troubles with dry stains.
